ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 30, 2014 -- United States Patent no. 8,846,969 issued on Sept. 30, 2014, was assigned to Rainbow Photonics AG (Zurich).

"Phenolic Configurationally Locked Polyene Bulk Single Crystals, Crystalline Thin Films and Waveguides for Electro-Optics and THz-Wave Applications" was invented by Peter Gunter (Riedt-Neerach, Switzerland), Mojca Jazbinsek (Dubendorf, Switzerland), O-Pil Kwon (Suwon, South Korea), Seong-Ji Kwon (Zurich), Christoph Hunziker (Mellingen, Switzerland) and Harry Figi (Zurich).

Our Profile

Rainbow Photonics was founded as a spin-off from the Nonlinear Optics Laboratory of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich, in 1997.

The highest nonlinearity of the organic crystals DSTMS, DAST and OH1 and high efficiency THz generation using ultra-compact laser sources (fiber lasers) was first demonstrated in 2003 by the founders of the company.

Rainbow Photonics Ltd. is a Swiss corporation with headquarters in Zurich where the production of organic crystals and THz instruments is located.

The company has introduced a series of novel terahertz instruments for imaging and spectroscopy featuring wide bandwidth up to 20 THz, and terahertz components for THz generation and detection based on optimized organic crystals (DSTMS, OH1, DAST) developed by Rainbow Photonics founders (Patent no. 8,846,969). Our compact turn-key, broadband TDS - THz spectrometers:TeraSys®- ULTRA, TeraSys®- AiO, TeraIMAGE® and the unique narrowband tunable TeraTune® offer solutions to THz spectroscopy and imaging in transmission and reflection. Our highly stable organic crystals are also well suited for other ultrafast electro-optical and nonlinear optical applications. The engineering and production of these systems require experience and special knowledge that has been accumulated through extensive collaboration with the ETH-Zurich, and the previous experience of Rainbow Photonics AG as manufacturer of all-solid-state lasers.

Rainbow Photonics Ltd. is the first Swiss company offering THz technology and it is the pioneer in broadband THz, which has been based on our organic materials since 1997.
